UWIT1 IT Skills 101(Introduction to information technology and Microsoft Office) This course introduces students to information technology and communication. It includes an introduction to information technology, structure of digital computer systems, computer software (system SW and application SW), Internet and networks, security and use of ICT in our daily life. The course also aims to enhance students practical skills in using effectively the following software packages: Microsoft Windows , MS-Office, and Internet browsers such as Internet Explorer and Google Chrome.

UWO1 Principle of computer Programming The aim of this unit is to give learners a basic understanding of object-oriented programming languages and how to produce effective code. It also enables learners to gain a perspective of software development and the basic principles of algorithms.
UWO2 System Analysis and Design The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ awareness of system analysis and design in an organisational context. The unit introduces various techniques used within systems analysis and design and the methodologies used in the system development process.
UWO3 Cyber Security In this unit, learners will learn the fundamentals of cyber security, including its historical development, laws and regulations, risk management and the impact it has on individuals and organisations. Learners will also gain knowledge and understanding about cyber security protection methods and how to manage a cyber security attack.

UWO4 Managing Digital Information The aim of this unit is to show how communications, knowledge and information can be improved within an organisation including making better use of IT systems. Learners will understand the interaction between communications, knowledge and information. The unit also explores how IT systems can be used as a management tool for collecting, storing, disseminating and providing access to knowledge and information.
UWO5 Computer & Network Technology This unit provides learners with an understanding of computer networking essentials and cloud technologies, their operating principles, protocols, standards, security considerations, and prototypes associated with this field. Learners will explore different hardware and software options as well as how to configure and install them. A wide range of networking technologies will be also examined including Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN) and how they evolved to create large-scale networks. Protocol methodologies related to IP data networks will also be explored.
UWO6 Web and Mobile Applications The aim of this unit is to provide learners with an understanding of current web and mobile application design technology and the practices and tools used. The learner will learn to create websites or mobile applications to given design specifications.

UWO7 MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS The aim of this unit is to give learners an understanding of how an organisation uses information to design, implement, maintain and manage secure information systems to support its operations. This unit examines how systems can be used to support core business functions and enable organisations to be more productive and competitive within the global marketplace.
UWO8 Database Systems The aim of this unit is to provide learners with knowledge in database systems development and enable them to develop strong database design and development skills.
UW09 Advanced systems Analysis and Design The aim of this unit is to provide learners with a deep understanding of the activities of the systems analyst and systems designer, and to be able to apply some current techniques.

UWIT3 IT Skills 103(Mutimedia systems) The aim of this unit is to give learners the principles and current technologies of computer-based multimedia systems. They will study current media types (images, video, audio, graphics, etc.) and how they are used to create multimedia content. Issues in effectively representing, processing, and retrieving multimedia data will be addressed. The learners will be familiarized with the range of tools used in creating computer-based multimedia
UWO10 Software Engineering The aim of this unit is to give learners an understanding of software development and its evolution as an engineering discipline, and to develop, maintain, and evolve software systems of high quality.
UWO11 Network Information Systems The aim of this unit is to develop learners knowledge and skills in planning, configuring, setting up and managing networks (such as a LAN, PAN, MAN, WAN) as well as build skills in network monitoring, and knowledge of Network Security, network protocols and standards.
UWO12 IT Project Management The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ skills in managing Information Technology projects to implement systems or change in their organisations. This unit is particularly relevant for middle and senior managers whose responsibilities include the introduction of operational or strategic change in their organisations.

UWO13 ADVANCED COMPUTER NETWORKS This unit supports learners to develop a critical understanding of relevant and modern concepts in networking technologies within the IT industry. This unit also introduces learners to the detection of threats and vulnerabilities in physical and IT security, and how to manage risks relating to organisational security.
UWO14 ADVANCED DATA ANALYTICS The aim of this unit is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills for advanced data analytics. This unit introduces learners to applied analytical models used in business to discover, interpret and communicate meaningful patterns of data held in silos or data warehouses, and to derive knowledge for competitive advantage. Learners are assumed to have some programming knowledge.
UWO15 ADVANCED DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ knowledge and skills of advanced database systems and how these systems are managed within a business or corporate environment. Learners will be able to make informed choices between vendor and open source platforms for database management systems, and design and develop a relational DBMS for a client using an open source platform.

UWO16 ADVANCED MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS This aim of this unit is to develop learners’ knowledge and skills in managing information systems for organisations. Learners will examine how systems can be used to support core business functions, to drive business improvement, and to enable organisations to be more productive and competitive within the global marketplace.
UWO17 COMPUTERS, SOCIETY AND LAW The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ ability to deal with work related IT issues that apply beyond the immediate tasks of the Information Technology practitioner, ie ethical, legal and societal considerations. Formal legal requirements and responsibilities of the profession are included, as are the relevant professional codes of conduct.
UWO18 COMPUTING PROJECTS This is a practical unit with two projects:
  1. Creation of an e-commerce solution
  2. Creation of a Mobile application.
The aim of the first part of this unit is to provide learners with an understanding of how and why businesses and organisations develop E-Commerce strategies and the elements and resources required to set up an E-Commerce site as an implementation of organisational strategies. The learner will develop the skills required to create such an e-commerce solution. The aim of the first part of this unit is to develop learners’ ability to identify and select relevant APIs to use within a mobile application of their own choice or from a given scenario, in addition to testing and documenting against the initial design requirement.

Eugenio Andrieu has been working in software development and data science for over 20 years, handling all aspects of the software lifecycle - from project management and analysis to development. Prior to this, he worked as a process and field engineer for oil companies for more than 10 years. From 2013 until 2023, he lectured at several universities in the Philippines.
